Summer holidays are nearly over, and the challenges of keeping the kids occupied has been as certain as some of that chocolate ice cream ending up down your front! We do our best to appease the wants and needs of our children or grandchildren however, it seems that we are going to greater lengths than ever before.
Zoopla have recently carried out a study which reports that three quarters of families say their offspring have a say over final housing choices during the home moving process. This manifests itself in the ‘must haves’ of children becoming central to the property search and reshaping the families priorities in a new home.
This effect is seen even more keenly in recent generations with 40% of Gen Z movers identifying their children as either the primary influence or a significant part of the final choice. This percentage reduces to 33% in Millennials.
Odd as this may seem to some it goes to highlight the importance of location and amenities. A highly rated school nearby can be the difference for prospective purchasers. Leisure amenities or open spaces can have an equal effect for those with children.
Fear not though Baby Boomers as you are the most collaborative when it comes to the house buying process with 60% of you buying as a joint venture, twice as much as more recent generations who are often led more by solo decisions.
All told it is interesting to see how different dynamics effect the house buying process and how those who you expect the least can have the most influence on the big decisions. Here at Poole Townsend we make sure we are highlighting the important selling points of your property to prospective purchasers and that we are aware of what our buyers deem the most important traits in a new area or property.
What with the reduction in interest rates again why not let the youngsters in your live decide which property to buy for you. Your money is probably more productive in property than in a savings account!
