Escape to the country without the price tag

If anything lockdown has taught us the value of space. Not just to create that temporary home office but the benefits of getting out into the fresh air on our health and wellbeing.

Many of us are fortunate to have green spaces close at hand, but for those currently living in the city, the desire for a more rural way of life has certainly seen increased appeal.

With employers investing in new technologies to keep their business running while their employees work from home, there are fewer hurdles in the way for those considering a permanent move to the countryside - until you consider that everyone else may be having the exact same idea.

New data from research conducted by Lloyds Bank reveals that properties within National Parks now command a premium of over £155,000 on their surrounding areas.

The average national park property price is up 7% (£29,609) in the last year, compared to a 2% rise for the average property in England and Wales.

Not all National Parks have seen these increases, but those wanting to relocate or purchase a second home in the Lake District would expect to see a 10% increase or a price tag of £412,213 - over 120% (or £226,848) more than nearby homes.

So is a move to the country out of reach for most of us?

Poole Townsend Operations Manager Angela explains; ‘there are many market towns and small villages on the edge of the Lake District National Park that can provide that change in the quality of life without breaking the bank. House prices are more affordable for example in the villages around Kendal, Ulverston, or those on the outskirts of Barrow-in-Furness and you’re still only a short drive away from the park boundary.’

‘These properties can offer great value for money whether you are considering part or full-time residency and many have fantastic landscape views of their own, without the price tag of a lake view!’

Thinking about making an escape to the country in search of greener pastures? At Poole Townsend, we can offer the best of both worlds: Homes just a stone's throw away from the lakes and mountains, without the Lake District price tag.

Don’t forget the property market is still open during lockdown with valuations and viewings available. So try our property search feature today to highlight homes on the National Park boundary.
