This November, local lawyers are taking part in Will Aid. We will make your will and provided it is not anything too complicated, you give us a donation to Will Aid, all of which goes to the Will Aid charity.
Why would we do that?
Firstly- we are a nice bunch. We don’t all have a fin on our back you know.
Secondly- let’s be honest, it gives us good publicity.
Thirdly- if your Will is a complicated one, we will ask you to pay extra, but as always, we give you our initial advice and fixed fee quote at the start, at no cost, and no commitment, so there will be no surprises.
Fourthly- we will advise you on the other areas that you need to think about. Regular readers of this column will know that I am a great fan of using trusts to protect your assets for the future, for you and your family. We advise on Lasting Powers of Attorney, Inheritance Tax planning and we have our own Independent Financial Advisers who are always on hand to help with the money side of things. Investments, life insurance, equity release and other mortgages, it’s all here.
If you take up any of these services, you will be charged for separately for them. They are not part of the Will Aid offer. So you can see there is a method in our madness.
But at the end of the day, it is still a simple plan. We will make your Will in return for a donation to Will Aid.
What do we expect from you? Well, we are providing you with a valuable service. We want to see that you do value it, by making a reasonable donation to the charity. We normally charge £120 + VAT for a single Will and £180 + VAT for joint Wills, so that is what we are giving up. If you then only give us a donation of a tenner for the charity, we feel a bit cheated. There is not VAT to pay, as it all goes to charity, and we suggest a donation of £85 for a single Will and £125 for joint Wills, so it is still a good saving and at those rates, we all get a warm feeling.
We have had a good response so far and our diaries are already filling up. Appointments for Will Aid wills are limited, so call soon and please don’t be disappointed if we can’t fit you in. We will do our best to see as many people as we can under the scheme and will let you know in December how much money we have raised, and the kind of donations we have received (without naming names of course. That would be madness…..).
