Local solicitor, Poole Townsend, is participating in Will Aid during the month of November. Will Aid provide a fantastic opportunity for the people of Barrow, Dalton and Ulverston, Grange-over-Sands, Kendal and Milnthorpe and the surrounding areas to put their affairs in order and help charities at the same time.
During November, Poole Townsend will draw up basic Wills and all they ask in return is that the will-maker makes a donation to Will Aid. The suggested, but entirely voluntary donation level is £85 for a basic single Will, £125 for a pair of Wills or £40 for a codicil to an existing Will.
Will Aid is a campaign run by nine of the UK's best known charities: ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, Age UK, NSPCC, Save the Children, Sight Savers, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (N. Ireland).
Making a Will is a straightforward, simple and an important way of making sure that assets go to who you want to receive them, usually family or friends, but the decision is yours. However, less than half of the population have made a Will. If someone dies without a Will, then the government decides who gets their assets. It can take years to sort out someone's estate if they die without a Will, and cause a lot of ill-feeling between family members. There is no guarantee that the surviving spouse will even keep the family home – it may have to be sold to pay off other relatives.
By taking advantage of the Will Aid opportunity this November, you will be helping the Will Aid charities to transform the lives of children, their families and whole communities around the world, as well as ensuring the security of your own loved ones.
