After reading an article in the Evening Mail, Jenna Tranter, Lettings Co-ordinator, Poole Townsend asked her colleagues, friends and family if they had any old books to donate for a charity book sale. What Jenna didn’t bank on was the overwhelming response.
Jenna received over 300 books in less than 48 hours. Thankfully, with so many books, Jenna was able to divide them between two cancer charity book sales taking place this weekend (10th July 2010).
Half the books were taken to the Ulverston Library in King Street for a book sale to help raise funds and awareness of the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund and the other half were donated to Bon Marche in Barrow, who were also having a book sale with all proceeds going to MacMillan Cancer Support.
Jenna comments, “After reading the articles in the paper, I knew I had quite a few old books gathering dust on my book shelf, so I decided to ask my colleagues, family and friends. I was overwhelmed by the response.
“I hope the book sale goes well and both charities raise lots of money and awareness of the good work they do”.
