Our approach emphasises negotiations and agreement, not conflict and confrontation

Here for you when you need us most

We understand how hard it can be to go through a family break up so that's why we're here for you when you need us most. Keeping everyone amicable is important to us so we always try to negotiate an agreement when possible, in order that as little harm as possible is done to those involved. This approach is also aimed at saving you and your family unnecessary legal costs and stress.

Divorce and relationship breakdown can be an extremely stressful time for a family. There are a lot of things to think about and important decisions to make about your future, your children and your finances. We approach divorce with care and understanding, aiming to give you the options – personally, legally and financially – for you and your family.

Financial Settlements

These are usually the issues that cause most difficulties. We are able to give you expert advice regarding the implications of any financial settlement. It is essential that If your case involves a Company, Business or Pensions, that you obtain the experienced and professional advice that we are able to provide. As far as Pensions are concerned, we work hand-in-hand with our Financial Services Department so you can get in-house Expert advice as to the implications on your Pension.

Pre and Post-Nuptial Agreements

Most couples don't plan to split up, in fact it is usually the last thing on their mind, but in certain cases it may be sensible to make a Pre-Nuptial Agreement or Post-Nuptial Agreement - particularly if this is a second marriage or you wish to protect your Business assets or ensure that assets you own are retained for your children should there be a divorce in the future. We will look at all the issues that may impact on the terms of such Agreements and their importance to you and advise how to address these in the most appropriate, sensitive and cost-effective way.

Children Matters

Making important decisions about your children’s future, while coping with the stress of a separation, is always tough and sometimes we need to step in to help you make decisions. These include with whom a child lives, where a child lives, what arrangements are in place for the child to see the other parent, issues relating to parental responsibility – all of these issues may come to light during a family break-up. We have many years of experience in helping parents to sort out their disputes in the best interests of their children and we do it with sensitivity and care.

Living together (including Cohabitation Agreements)

Over six million people now live together as a couple in the UK without being married and, unfortunately, some of these relationships break down. When this happens many couples are surprised to learn that they don't have the same rights as a married couple despite sharing finances and/or property. It may seem a little unromantic to consider what will happen if you separate, but some forward planning could protect your position. A Cohabitation agreement allows you to agree upon how you will own and share things. It prompts you to think about easy and fair ways to organise your day to day finances and ensures that if your relationship ended, you are each aware of the financial consequences.

Also, if you are to separate it is worthwhile entering into a Separation Agreement which reflects the basis on which you have separated and, again, we can advise on this.

The path to become an adoptive parent is a complex one and we aim to guide you every step of the way. We deal with all manner of adoption processes including domestic adoption and adopting your partner’s child as a step parent.

In many cases, we are able to offer a Fixed Fee to give you peace of mind. In the cases where we are unable to do so, we will do our best to give you an early and accurate estimate and to keep you advised as the case proceeds. If you have concerns re payment, then we are happy to discuss with you options for making payment.
