Research, research, research
Set aside some time to do research and create some lists that will help give focus to your search. Include features that are non-negotiable, such as the number of bedrooms and parking. Then write another list with options that you might be flexible with, such as the size of the garden and the style of house (new build or traditional, semi-detached or detached, for example). If you're not sure where to begin, we're here to make the list with you!

Take notes for every house you visit
Once you've been to a few house viewings and visited some open weekends, there’s a good chance you might forget some of the smaller details you may have noticed at the time. It’s amazing what slips your mind after you’ve walked out of that property!
Look within your budget
Start your search at the lower end of your price range and work your way up. You might just find your dream home and never reach that upper limit.
Keep your camera (or phone) handy.
If you can, take pictures of your house viewing. Of course we do our best to ensure we represent each property well across our website but it may come in handy to have a few images of your own.

Don’t panic buy
When you've been house hunting for a while and you're not seeing anything you like it's easy to feel like you just need to buy. We’re here to make sure you don’t settle and you find your dream home, at the right price, in the right location. Remember that new houses come on the market every day.
Don’t be afraid to be nosy (as long as you’re polite about it!)
Storage space is really important when it comes to choosing a home. Don’t be afraid to open doors, wardrobes, cupboards and other potential areas for storage. You may want to check to see it the cupboards are overstuffed and how much space is in the garage or the shed. If any areas are jam-packed, this may indicate that there isn’t enough storage space in the home.
Try and overlook cosmetic changes.
It’s important not to put too much emphasis on the aesthetics of a house. The chances are, you and the current owner won’t have the same tastes, but don’t let that put you off. The colour of a wall can be easily transformed with a lick of paint, and carpets can be replaced. Think of the property as a shell, and one that you can make your mark on if you like the key features and it ticks the boxes on your ‘must have list’.
Visit the area at different times
Make appointments to view the house at different times of the day, and at weeknights and weekends. It’s amazing what a chance it can make!
